Time of The Thieves introduce you to: Stephen Edwards
TTT. What’s your name?
S.E. Stephen Edwards.
TTT. Where were you born and where do you live?
S.E. I was born in a Co. Donegal, Ireland and I’ve been living in Glasgow, Scotland for 4 years now.
TTT. What is your profession?
S.E. I’m still a student. I study clinical pharmacology and I hope to work in research after this.
TTT. When did you start working with photography and why?
S.E. I bought a DSLR just to take photos of trips away and of my friends etc about 2 years ago and it sort of became a hobby. Then just over a year ago I got my first film camera, an Olympus Trip 35, and from then onwards it quickly became one of my favourite obsessions.
TTT. What are your favorites artists or which artists have influenced your work?
S.E. By far my main influences are my contacts on Flickr. To name but a few there’s the local guys such as David Boyson Cooper and Richard Gaston and then other great photographers such as Joe Coleman, Genevieve Bjargardottir, Anna Verlot Shelton, Philipp Bartz, Luke Byrne, and Lukasz Weirzbowski.
TTT. What are the elements that inspire you in your work (images, feelings, music characters)?
S.E. Nature, the city, fun, and all the people I know.
TTT. Can you tell us what you’re looking to convey with your work?
S.E. I try to capture the scenes and mood that I feel are best representative of the situation I’m in and the people that I’m with. I guess I want my photos to be honest.
TTT. Have you ever exhibited and if you have, where has it been?
S.E. No.

TTT. What are you reading now?
S.E. It’s mostly science related stuff I’m reading about now because it’s exam season.
TTT. What is your favorite place?
S.E. The coast of Donegal or a good restaurant.
TTT. Can you tell us in what circumstances you made this picture?
S.E. My parents, brother and I went on a drive to the most northerly point of Ireland; Malinhead, Co. Donegal. It was a beautiful day and we stopped at a pretty little church that wasn’t far from the beach. We were having a look around the graveyard there and that’s when I took this photograph.
TTT. If you could associate this image with a song, which would it be?
S.E. We had been listening to Death Cab For Cutie in the car on the way out there so maybe “Your Are A Tourist”.
TTT. What do you feel when you look at this picture?
S.E. I remember how much I enjoyed that day and I feel excited about being back home in Donegal again.
